About the Book

A secret seven hundred years in the making.

When an elderly stranger walks into the British Museum, asks for Dr. James Calder by name and leaves behind nothing but a sealed satchel — the serenity of Calder's ordered academic life ends abruptly.

Inside the satchel is the first fragment of a cipher: a code that has waited, unread, since 1319 — when a dying Templar knight pressed it into the hands of a Portuguese family and told them the world was not yet ready for what it held.

Calder may not be the man this inheritance was meant for. But he is the man it found. With linguistics specialist Sara at his side, he follows the trail from the vaults of the Temple Church in London to the graffiti-scratched dungeons of the Château de Gisors in Normandy — and finally to Tomar, Portugal, where the Convento do Cristo has stood on its hilltop for eight hundred years, hiding the truth about what really happened when the Knights Templar were destroyed.

Because in Portugal, the Order was never destroyed. It changed its name, changed its robes, and kept its oath — and somewhere within its sixteen-sided sanctuary, the Charola, a secret has been waiting for someone who can finally read it.

As Calder and Sara close in on the truth, they discover they are not the only ones who are interested in the cipher — and that some inheritances come with an obligation that has never, in seven centuries, gone unanswered.

What makes it unique: Grounded in genuine, ongoing scholarship — from the documented survival of the Templars in Portugal as the Order of Christ, to ongoing debate about historical events, their meaning and their discoveries — The Tomar Revelation moves between meticulously real locations: the British Museum, the Temple Church, the Château de Gisors, the Castelo de Almourol, and the Convento do Cristo itself, one of the great hidden monuments of Europe.

From the Back Page

“A document has been protected here.
You will understand, in time, what that knowledge costs.”

For nine hundred years, the secret has waited.

In the autumn of 2005, an intelligence officer slips into Rome to keep a meeting that does not exist on any itinerary. In a kitchen in northern Portugal, an old man pours his fourteen-year-old son a glass of port and begins to explain what their family has carried since the night the Templars fell. And on a hillside above Tomar, beneath nine centuries of stone and silence, the answer to one of history's oldest questions sits exactly where it was hidden.

Sweeping from the corridors of the Vatican to the buried chambers of the Convento de Cristo, THE TOMAR REVELATION is a thriller about inheritance, belief, and the moment a promise nine hundred years in the making finally comes due.
